Artworks grace Whakatane Library

Whakatane residents are encouraged to visit the Whakatane Library to see artworks created by award finalists and to hear from 2017 winner, Kirstin Carlin.

Whakatane residents are invited to Te Koputu a te whanga a Toi – Whakatane Library and Exhibition Centre to hear about artist Kirstin Carlin's work.

Kirstin, who received the Molly Morpeth Canaday Award for painting in drawing in 2017, will be talking about painting from an artist's perspective, as well as sharing her favourite picks from this year's award finalists.

A Whakatane District Council spokesperson says this event is a great opportunity for people to get involved in.

'Kirsten's work is held in major public and private collections, and has been exhibited in many galleries in New Zealand and abroad.

'She completed a Master of Fine Arts at Glasgow School of Art in 2010. Recent solo shows include The Gardens at The Central Gallery, Christchurch; and New Painings at gallery 9, Sydney.”

This years Molly Morpeth Canaday Award finalists works can be viewed at the Whakatane Library and Exhibition Centre until Sunday, April 7.

Visitors are encouraged to vote for the $500 People's Choice Merit Award before Sunday, March 17.
