Mount Maunganui based brewery ‘The Funk Estate' has been named best in the Bay of Plenty.

The Society of Beer Advocates Inc., (SOBA) awarded the title to the Funk Estate in Tauranga on Saturday.

CEO of The Funk Estate Jordan Evison says that he and his team are over the moon about winning the award.

'It's been very much a team effort – my partners are Dylan Shearer and Shigeo Takagi – and we are all stoked with the win and looking forward to seeing how we can continue to grow Funk Estate while naturally, ‘staying funky.

'Funk has made it a personal mission to keep things fresh and funky on the craft beer scene – by thinking outside the box to consistently develop award-winning, unique quality brews,” he says.

After establishing in Wellington in 2012 and having a brief stint brewing in Auckland in 2016, the company relocated to Mount Maunganui in late 2017 to collaborate with the Mount Brewing Company.

'Funk now annually produces hundreds of thousands of litres and exports beer to countries including Australia, Japan and Thailand and has also exported to Taiwan.”

Evison says that the Funk Estate's canned beers and kegs are available nationwide at good beer venues.
