Bad weather is forcing organisers to cancel the Tye Park Fireworks Fiesta.

The Welcome Bay Community Centre announced the cancellation of the Friday event.

'There will be another event to look forward to soon, we hope, with some music and fun for all,” says the Facebook post.

'In the meantime, we'll be looking at a date towards the end of the year for a fireworks display.

'Thanks to everyone for all your generous support for our community events.”

The centre says they are looking at having a music-focused event soon, but no decisions have yet been made.

They have also made the decision to push the fireworks display back out to December 2019.

'We'll confirm the December date when we have checked tide times and checked the availability of the entertainments etc.

'We are so sorry that we have disappointed so many people, and we are so thankful that our volunteers and sponsors are so patient with us.

'Events like this run largely on volunteer contribution and we couldn't do it without them.”

I would have thought they could have come up with a better excuse than blaming the weather.
