Paraglider killed in Mt Maunganui crash named

The crash happened on Friday evening.

The man killed in a paraglider crash on Mt Mauganui has been named.

Forty-eight-year-old Richard Leslie Marriner from Tauranga died following a crash near the summit on the eastern side of the Mount.

"The paraglider landed about 100 metres into dense bush which required 4x4 vehicles to reach.  The man’s body was recovered by a team of emergency services personnel shortly after 8.30pm on Friday." says Senior Sergeant Rob Glencross.

Police are seeking any witnesses to the crash.

Richard was the only one flying at the time, says Rob.

His death has been referred to the Coroner.
