State Highway 27 is closed this morning following a truck fire near Tatuanui in the Waikato.

Fire crews were called to the scene of the blaze at 5.156am.

Fire and Emergency northern communications shift manager Paul Radden says the truck and trailer was engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

NZTA says the highway is closed between Tatuanui and Ngarua.

'Road users are advised to allow additional time for the detour and expect delays.”

Diversions

Southbound traffic use SH26, turn right on to Ngarua Road, then left on to SH27. Northbound traffic turn right on to Ngarua Road, then turn left on to SH26, then turn right on to SH27.
