On this day in NZ history in 1942 the Women Jurors Act allowed women to sit on juries. The Act provided for women aged between 25 and 60 to have their names placed on the jury list on the same basis as men – if they so desired.
In world history on this day in 1905 Norway signed a treaty of separation with Sweden. In 1958 the first New York – Paris transatlantic jet passenger service was inaugurated by Pan Am, while the first New York – London transatlantic jet passenger service was inaugurated by BOAC.
In 1994 Israel and Jordan signed a peace treaty. In 2002 Russian Spetsnaz stormed the Moscow Theatre, where Chechen terrorists had taken the audience and performers hostage three days earlier; 50 terrorists and 150 hostages died in the assault.

Today is the birthday of Hillary Rodham Clinton, First Lady of the United States (1993–2001), Senator from New York (2001–2009) and US Secretary of State (2009–2013).
