The cause of the crash that closed State Highway 2 on Monday afternoon is still being investigated.
Emergency Services were called to Burt Road in Matata at 4.24pm, after a vehicle crashed into a power pole.
A police spokesperson says the deceased man was the only occupant of the car.
'Nobody else was injured in the crash.”
'The cause of the crash is being investigated by Serious Crash Unit.”
'Police left the crash site at around 8pm but it looks like the power company and contractors were still at the location at that time.”
