State Highway 2 open following fatal crash

Emergency services were called to the crash just before 4.30pm.

State Highway 2 in the Eastern Bay is open following a fatal crash.

One man died when a vehicle hit powerline in Matata at 4.24pm on Monday.

The crash caused emergency services to close the road, from Manawahe and Flax roads, for several hours.

The road was closed to allow for the serious crash unit to investigate the scene and allow contractors to clear away the fallen powerlines.

According to the NZTA, the road was re-opened just after midnight.

"Due to an earlier crash, State Highway 2 is now open to one lane under a "Stop Go operation"". Expect possible delays."
