Truck takes out power lines on Pyes Pa Road

UPDATED 1.43PM: A truck has taken out power lines on Pyes Pa Road this afternoon.

Police received a report of a truck taking down power lines on the highway, near ACG Tauranga, shortly after 1pm.

"It appears wire came down and made contact with another vehicle. No reports of any injuries," says a police spokesperson.

"The power company has been advised."

Power is also out to several properties in the Omanawa area.

EARLIER:

Reports are coming in of a crash on Pyes Pa Road where a powerlines are down.

Powerco reports that 501 properties are without power in the Omanawa area this afternoon.

The power outage has been recorded at the same time as a crash on Pyes Pa Road, outside ACG Tauranga.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a truck has taken out powerline in the area.

Police have been called to the scene.
