Lorde, Meatloaf and the weather

In today's forecast we are expecting a fine day with southwest breezes.

It's a three-clothing layer day today with a high of 16 and an overnight low of 5 degrees. Humidity is 92 per cent.

Low tide is at 2.10pm and high tide is at 8.20pm (Tay Street times). There's a sea swell of 0.2m with a sea temperature of 15 degrees. Sunset tonight is at 6.11pm.

If you're going fishing the next best fish bite time is between 5.30pm and 8.30pm.

On this day in NZ history in 1974 William Sutch was charged with spying. On a rainy night in Wellington's Aro St, the Security Intelligence Service gatecrashed a meeting between William Sutch and Dimitri Razgovorov. They believed Sutch, a prominent economist and former senior public servant, was passing information to Razgovorov, a Soviet diplomat.

In 2013 Lorde released Pure Heroine in New Zealand and Australia. Following the success of her single ‘Royals', Lorde's first studio album Pure Heroine debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200 charts.

In world history on this day in 1939 Germany occupied Warsaw as Poland fell to Germany and the Soviet Union. In 2003 the European Space Agency launched the SMART-1 satellite to orbit the moon. In 2007 NASA launched the Dawn probe to explore and study the two largest objects of the asteroid belt, Vesta and Ceres.

Today is the birthday of Meat Loaf, singer, songwriter and actor. Born in 1947, he once said "Don't worry about the future, sooner or later it's the past. If they say the feeling's gone then it's time to take it back."
