Serious crash causes delays near Tauriko

Update 1pm - Delays are expected following a serious crash between a ute and a car near Tauriko.

NZTA says a serious accident has happened on State Highway 29 near Cambridge Road.

"Emergency services are on site and delays are expected."

A reporter at the scene says one lane is blocked and traffic is congested in the area.

"A ute with a trailer and a car are involved.

"It's happened at the end of the passing lane on State Highway 29, past the Tauriko roundabout.

"There are three ambulance at the scene, two fire engines and multiple police cars. It looks serious.

"Traffic is stop-go at the moment and being controlled by police."

Reports are coming in about a crash involving a truck and a car near Tauriko.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hot line says the crash has happened near the intersection of State Highway 29 and Cambridge Road.

"It's just up the road from the Tauriko roundabout.

"It looks like it might be a head on crash."
