What’s on? Home shows, road closures and marathons

Good morning SunLive readers and welcome back to Saturday.

I'm on the fence as to whether or not I should feel for those of you who will be out there taking on the Tauranga International Marathon today, as the sky is looking pretty grim.

As a former running enthusiast though, I know that running in the rain can be a Godsend on warmer days and if that's you too then you should make the most of it while you can; because it's expected to clear into a fine day by late morning.

The high today is 18°c and that's dropping down overnight to 8°c.

And of course with the marathon comes a bunch of technical traffic stuff you ought to know about.

Closures will be in place on the Strand from Harington Street to Devonport Road; and on Wharf Street from Willow Street to The Strand from 5am to 10pm today.

Durham Street from Harington St to Hamilton Street will also be closed from 9am to 5pm.

The day features a range of different events including the full marathon which kicks off from 9am at Papamoa Beach Road; the 6km run starting at 9.30am at Judea Rugby Club; 12km run starting at Beach Road Reserve at 10am; Half marathon run starting at 10.30 at Coronation Park; and the kids dash beginning at 1.30pm.

An overview of the marathon, the courses and other event info is available here but if you can make it, be sure to swing by the course and cheer on these keen athletes.

Also kicking off today is the Vegan Vibes Festival at Sopher Reserve from 10am-4pm.

The vegan festival will showcase a curated selection of vegan food, food products, body and leisure products, fashion, footwear and much more from around the country. There will also be guest speakers, workshops, giveaways, music and entertainment.

Early bird admission is $12.25 or $15 door sales. Children under 13 attend free.

For the home makers, the Tauranga Spring Home Show is on between 10am and 4pm at ASB Baypark Arena through until Sunday.

Whether you're looking to build, renovate or decorate your home, you will find expert advice from more than 200 leading exhibitors at the Spring Home Show.

And while you're there be sure to catch up with some friendly faces from Sun Media, who will be hosting a stand all weekend.

Entry costs $10 for adults and children under 13 attend free.

Over at Althorp Village residents and staff members are hosting a day that's all about causes.

More than 150 people will be in attendance of a special brunch, that's set to raise awareness about Prostate and Breast Cancer.

There's an amazing spread of raffle prizes up for grabs so if you want to win make sure you go along and support the great cause; it's happening between 10am-12pm.

If you're wanting some entertainment, head along and catch Tauranga's finest synchronised swimmers at Baywave in Mount Maunganui.

This is a great chance to see the Tauranga Synchro athletes perform their routines in preparation for the NZ National Synchronised Swimming Championships being held in October in Invercargill.

Head along and support the girls as all are welcome.

Plus it's a perfect opportunity to get a feel for the sport for those interested in giving synchro a go.

And if any of those options still aren't of interest to you, then be sure to peruse our listing in today's list of What's On:
