Update 4.15pm - One person has been injured following a crash in Welcome Bay.

Police were called to the scene of a two-car crash on Welcome Bay Rd about 3.35pm, says a police media spokesperson.

"It appears one person is injured."

Police could not confirm how serious the injuries were.

"Traffic is backed up however the road is not blocked," says police.

Reports are coming in about a crash near Welcome Bay.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says it's happened on Welcome Bay Road between Waikite Road and Ranginui Road.

"It looks as though only a small silver hatchback is involved, but traffic is backed up a little."
