Police investigating the death of a pedestrian on the Waikato Expressway are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The crash happened at around 7.30pm southbound on the Waikato Expressway north of the Horotiu turnoff.

"Police would like to hear from anyone who saw someone walking south on the Waikato Expressway last night in the area of the crash, says Inspector Andrew Mortimore.

"Inquiries are ongoing to identify the deceased, however, a vehicle has been located abandoned nearby."
