A severe weather warning remains in place with more rain forecast to lash the Bay of Plenty today.
Heavy rain in the region caused surface flooding in some areas yesterday and some trees were also reported to have come down across some roads.
The MetService is warning people to brace for even more rain today.
"A front lies about Bay of Plenty overnight Wednesday and Thursday, then moves away to the east overnight Thursday as a low deepens east of New Zealand.
"This front is bringing periods of heavy rain to the northeast of the North Island.
The warning is for heavy rain in Bay of Plenty east of Opotiki, also Gisborne about the ranges and from Ruatoria northwards, where 100 to 150mm is expected through to Thursday night.
"People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case other areas are added.
