A dream and the weather

In today's forecast we are expecting cloud gradually increasing, and a shower or two from the afternoon. Also northerly breezes.

It's a three-clothing layer day today with a high of 16 and an overnight low of 12 degrees. Humidity is 93 per cent.

Low tide is at 2pm and high tide is at 8.20pm. There's a sea swell of .2m with a sea temperature of 14 degrees. Sunset tonight is at 5.46pm.

If you're going fishing today the best fish bite time is between 4.30 and 7.30pm.

In NZ history on this day in 1992 Cantabrians awoke to find the region blanketed in snow. The ‘Big Snow', as the 1992 storm came to be known, was the Canterbury region's heaviest for 30 years.

In world history on this day in 1789 William Herschel discovered Enceladus, a new moon of Saturn. In 1898 Caleb Bradham's beverage "Brad's Drink" is renamed "Pepsi-Cola".

In 1963 one of the largest demonstrations in the history of the United States, the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, took place and reached its climax at the base of the Lincoln Memorial when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his 'I have a dream” speech.

Today is the birthday of Peter Fraser, Born in 1884, Peter was a Scottish-born New Zealand journalist and politician, and the 24th Prime Minister of New Zealand.

He once said "The government's objective, broadly expressed, is that all persons, whatever their level of ability, whether they live in town or country, have a right as citizens to a free education of the kind for which they are best fitted and to the fullest extent of their powers."
