One person has died following the two car crash on State Highway 2 in Whakamarama, Bay of Plenty.
Emergency Services were called to the scene at 11.20am near Munro Road.
"The sole occupant of one vehicle died at the scene," says a police spokeswomen.
"One person in the second vehicle received moderate injuries."
A short diversion has been in place through Munro Road, however the highway is expected to reopen before 2pm.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
