Two separate crashes on SH2

Emergency services are attending to crashes on State Highway 2, north of Tauranga.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE says two cars have crashed head-on at the intersection of State Highway 2 and Munro Road, near Whakamarama.

The caller says emergency services have been called to the scene.

A police spokesperson says "injuries are unclear at this stage".

"Traffic is backed up to Gill Lane but is flowing slowly."

Another crash is also being reported on the highway near Hot Springs Road, near Tahawai.

A witness says one person is still in a vehicle and emergency services are at the scene.

Traffic is backing up and motorists are being warned to expect delays.
