The next generation of lifeguards has been given a significant boost, with local school ACG Tauranga becoming the primary sponsor of the Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service's Nippers programme for the 2017/2018 season.

With both organisations deeply committed to education and building bright futures, the partnership is an excellent fit, says ACG Tauranga Principal Shawn Hutchinson.

'Both MMLS and ACG Tauranga value their place in the local community and are striving to meet the needs of a growing region.

'As a school, we believe in education, service and community, and we're proud to partner with a local organisation that shares these values and contributes so much to the area.”

MMLS general manager Glenn Bradley says it promises to be an eventful summer for the club, with work expected to start on a new building in April, and forging a partnership with ACG Tauranga was the ideal way to kick things off.

'There's a real buzz around the club at the moment, coming off the back off a brilliant season, and with a number of exciting developments on the horizon.

'ACG's support means we can get straight into developing the next generation of lifeguards, giving them invaluable water skills so they can continue our proud legacy of keeping local beachgoers safe. It's a great fit for us as we look forward to a strong relationship with ACG Tauranga.”

The Nippers programme is set up for 5-13 year-olds, focused on fun, skill development and improving confidence in the water. It complements the competitive Oceans (10-13) age group, the Rookie Lifeguard programme and weekly skill sessions and school holiday programmes for a range of levels.
