Vox Pop: Budget 2017

With Budget 2017 now unveiled, SunLive took to the streets recently to discover what people thought and how it will affect them.

Described by Finance Minister Steven Joyce as a budget that will 'deliver for New Zealanders”, the range of investments that will impact Kiwis' lives, for better or worse, were announced Thursday.

'Our economy is performing well and that's a tribute to the hard work of New Zealanders. We have experienced positive growth in all but one quarter over the last six years,” says Steven.

'This is our opportunity to build on the economic platform we have all created, and deliver a significantly higher level of prosperity for New Zealanders in the years ahead.”

When vox popped by SunLive photographer and man about town Bruce Barnard on Friday, attitudes towards Budget 2017 were somewhat mixed.

Some were pleased with what was unveiled in the budget, some confessed to knowing little about it, while some admitted they just weren't that overly interested.

Funny that all these things get addressed and funded 4 months out from an election when some could have been addressed earlier surely. Now all the spin and rhetoric comes out.We have a Government that leaves things too long and then puts out all the Blah Blah when they do something that could have been addressed earlier.A budget for the votes.Housing and Immigration has been poorly handled..

It is good that this Government was able to invest with the surplus they have built up. To have spent everything earlier as some parties are suggesting would have involved increasing the debt and living beyond our means. We are lucky to have a government that goes about its business in a solid and robust way.
