Visitors to Classic Flyers today will be able to catch a glimpse of some classic aircraft, while those around Tauranga will only have to look up to see them in full flight.
Bad weather postponed the aircraft taking flight yesterday, but Classic Flyers spokesperson Sandra Rison-Hemming says today the conditions are perfect.
Earlier this week, SunLive reported on the impending visit from Brendon Deare's operational Grumman Avenger, and the New Zealand Catalina Preservation Society's PBY-5A Catalina flying boat ZH-PBY.
This visiting Avenger (NZ2518) is to help the aviation museum celebrate a milestone achieved by their volunteer crew in restoring the Gisborne Aviation Preservation Society's Grumman Avenger NZ2505 to static-running standard.
NZ2518 will fly on to Gisborne at 11am, although the NZ2505 will be on site doing an engine run.
Meanwhile, the Catalina will be taking up kids for flights from 11am as a service to the Child Cancer Society.
'People will be able to view it in the air – they fly low and slow, I've been told,” says Sandra.
People can see these aircraft, and others, at Classic Flyers today. Entry is $15 an adult, or $30 for a family.
