Supporting the arts

The Bethlehem College music department is holding a fundraising concert on Thursday, June 2 to showcase the school's top music groups.

Director of music Tom Jarrett says the concert is an opportunity to perform competition repertoire before the major music festivals and contests later this term.

The animoso choir is one of the groups fundraising for travel costs ahead of its North Island competitions.

The concert will showcase a wide variety of musical styles.

Ensembles will include the school's 37 piece concert band, jazz band, strings, animoso choir and other chamber groups.

Funds raised will help with travel costs to the various competitions this year.

Seven different competitions and festivals have been entered taking groups from Hamilton to New Plymouth and across to Wellington.

Entry to the concert at the college's performing arts centre on Thursday at 7.30pm is by gold coin donation.

Bring back the BBB and that way all can show an appreciation for the arts.

Yes, show how a fundraiser for the arts is done. Hopefully the 14 full-time paid staff of the Art Gallery and 'Creative Tauranga' will take note. Times of sustainability of cushy status jobs is over. Bureaucrats are from now on required to be worth their salary AND to be of value to the wider community. -SpeakUp- "Citizens Monitoring Council"
