The New Zealand Army Band has made its Tauranga stop on a 12-day tour of the North Island, playing at Otumoetai College on Tuesday.

Based at the Burnham Military Camp, just out of Christchurch, the band does a tour of a different area each year, with performances at schools its main focus.

Maddie Giles on trumpet, Laura Thompson on saxophone and Private Chris Foster on the tenor horn.

The band provided an energetic and inspiring concert at the college's performing arts centre at lunchtime.

Prior to this, band members held a workshop with students from Otumoetai College's symphonic and jazz bands.

The army also brought a recruitment officer who spoke with students after the event.

The event was an initiative led by the school's careers department.
