The interim Board of Trustees for the proposed full-immersion Maori school in Bethlehem are confident it will go ahead, despite an appeal to the Environment Court to stop the school's construction.
Interim Board of Trustees chairman, Iria Whiu, says they will know the outcome of the appeal by September.
"We are positive the school will go ahead in Bethlehem," says Iria.
The proposed full-immersion Maori school, or wharekura, sparked opposition from many in the Bethlehem community.
A group objecting to the school's construction lodged the appeal to the Environment Court.
Iria believes "misinformation" and "inadequate consultation" is fuelling opposition to the wharekura in the Bethlehem community.
She says the school will offer Maori students unique opportunities.
"It also provides an opportunity for those parents who find it difficult for their children to continue their education in Maori delivery."
