Former Otumoetai College head student Antony Jeffares is off to study music at Augusta State University in America after winning the Georgia Rotary Scholarship.
This worldwide scholarship is open to students aged 18-25 and applicants must be nominated by a Rotary Club.
Antony Jeffares is heading to America to study music.
Antony was nominated by the Rotary Club of Otumoetai.
He is currently studying at Auckland University, where he is undertaking a Bachelor in Music, majoring in jazz.
He plays the piano and the guitar, but voice is what he is concentrating his study in.
During the summer, Antony played regular gigs at Major Toms in Mount Maunganui with his group ‘Modern Scream Magazine'.
The American scholarship runs from August 2011 until May 2012 and covers tuition, accommodation and meals.
Antony is hoping to see as much as he can and play as much music as he can while in America.
He needs to raise US$3000 himself before he leaves – as well as his airfares.
Augusta State University is the oldest university in the state of Georgia and this scholarship is worth US$40,000-60,000.
