If you ask most 13-year-olds what they can do in 13.27 seconds, it wouldn't be run 100 metres. That is, unless, your name is Kayli Tuiraviravi.
The Otumoetai Intermediate pupil is a real speedster when it comes to running, and her mother, Ruth Tuiraviravi, is president of the Bellevue Athletic Club.

Ruth says athletics has played an important role in her family's life, with all of her children taking part in the sport at one time or another.
Kayli has been involved since she was four.
'It was basically because her older siblings were taking part,” explains Ruth, 'so instead of dragging her around watching them, I thought she might as well take part.
'We're just a family who love sports. Initially, athletics was a sport the whole family could be at and do it together.”
That approach paid dividends for Kayli, with the year eight pupil delivering some great results.
'Fortunately, she is a fast kid,” says Ruth. 'She is in the top eight in New Zealand for the 100m, 200m, long-jump and shotput.”
The athletics season is set to get underway tomorrow (October 13), and Ruth says Bellevue Athletic Club is keen to get new people involved.
The club holds two separate age group training sessions on the day with 0-6 year olds starting at 5.30pm for an hour before 7-14 year olds start at 6.30pm, also for an hour.
'With the under-6 kids we're teaching skills in a fun way. So the kids look at throwing and jumping and running and they just want to get involved. Most kids look at it and can't wait.”
The club, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, has a number of youngsters who are talented, Ruth says.
'We have other kids who didn't represent the club last year but have all the potential to do it this year, and we've got a couple of kids for the 10 and 11 year olds for the Trans-Tasman, who have the potential as well.”
The president says athletics is a great sport to get involved with.
'It's such a great sport to help any rugby players or netballers to keep them fit and fast over the summer. Even those who don't pick it as their number one sport will find that it's a great backbone sport.”
