Evening aimed at new Uni parents

Information evenings aimed at informing parents of new university students what to expect when their children begin tertiary study are to be hosted in Tauranga and Hamilton.

With half the year gone already, parents of children in their final year of secondary school are full of questions about tertiary study and how they can help their child's transition into university.

And according to says Waikato University's future students group manager Catherine Downes, the information sessions will give parents an opportunity to ask questions and receive guidance for making their child's transition a smooth one.

'We want to reassure parents that once their son or daughter starts studying at the University of Waikato, they will be well looked-after - especially those students who are moving away from home for the first time,” says Catherine.

The evening events will include talks from University and faculty staff sharing information about student support services, study costs, scholarships, the application process and the difference between school and university.

The Tauranga session is on Thursday, August 20 from 7pm-8.30pm at the ASB Arena.

The Hamilton sessions take place on Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 30 from 5.30pm-7pm in S Block at the Hamilton Campus.

Also mention that it is only the wealthy or poor that are able to attend and succeed . Middle income families don't get any finanical support and your kids are expected to support themselves as well as study. My child is one of these unfortunate ones who comes from a middle income working family with no assistance having to work, study and pay rent while trying to keep up with fees , books and study . Our kids are punished for us being average KIWI'S .
