Waikato Police are currently investigating a spike in rural farm bike burglaries over the last two months.
Theft of both two wheel and four wheel farm bikes has increased noticeably in the region and police are analysing reported offences to look for both investigative and prevention opportunities.

This year during the months of March and April there have been 55 thefts of farm bikes reported to Waikato Police.
May has also started in a similar fashion.
Waikato Police Tactical Crime Unit acting detective senior sergeant Andrew Mortimore is urging farmers and rural communities to be vigilant and ensure the security of bikes and other equipment.
'We want to reiterate that security of your farm possessions is important,” says Andrew. 'Police urge farmers and members of rural communities to check security measures on your property and always keep valuables locked away.
'Removing keys from farm bikes, and storing bikes in secure facilities is vital to deter optimistic thieves. These bikes are highly valued commodities.”
Andrew says farmers and members of rural communities can report any suspicious activity to Waikato Police on (07)-858-6200.
Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
