Greenpark School might have walked away from the 2015 Rainbow Cup as winners, but vivid colour and excited chatter confirmed that cricket was the winner on the day.
Mount Maunganui's Bay Oval was transformed into all the colours of the rainbow yesterday as 10 teams of excited year five and six Western Bay of Plenty girl's schools teams set about playing four games to find the winner.

And there was plenty of action for the culmination of the Term One GoGirl cricket program, run by Bay of Plenty Cricket during the last six weeks.
In keeping with the festive nature of the Rainbow Cup, the teams turned up in colourful uniforms, reflecting the seven colours of the rainbow.
At the end of the event, a number of awards were given out to reflect the fun and enjoyment the players had on the day.
The overall winner was Greenpark School, while the best-dressed team award was shared between Tahatai Coast Nerds and Pillans Point.
Matua Primary, who brought along a cheerleading squad resplendent with pom poms, won the sportsmanship award while Te Puke took out the most improved prize.
GoGirl is a girl's only cricket programme launched in January 2013 by Northern Districts Cricket, through the auspices of NZ Cricket, and is a partnership with Sport NZ Kiwisport Programme.
Bay of Plenty Cricket GoGirl coordinator Rebecca Yee says the tournament is a culmination of the six week GoGirl program, which has been delivered in Western Bay Schools, during February and March.
During this time Rebecca has been visiting 10 schools from Tauranga City to Pongakawa once a week, with each program tailored to the school team's skill levels.
'The program is based upon different games that individually develop cricket skill sets,” she says.
'T ball games are about hitting of an elevated tee to build batting skills, while bowling games that focus on straight deliveries teach the youngsters effective bowling skills.
'Another important part is the throwing and fielding skills within the batting games”.
