Chalking over Red Square

People have descended on Red Square today to take chalk to the pavement as part of a promotion for a free creative design course.

ACG Yoobee School of Design sales manager Chris Davis says today is about spreading the word about their Creative Pathways Youth Guarantee Course for 16-19-year-olds in Tauranga and the wider Bay of Plenty.

Lily Carston, 13, Jade Reeves, 14, and Ceridwyn Knight, 14, in Red Square today.

'The day's been going really well. We have had heaps of people through,” says Chris.

'The best picture will win a free i-Pad, in conjunction with The Edge promotion.”

The course starts on April 7 for 16-19-year-olds. It's completely free and Chris says 'we even run a bus from the city out to the ACG campus where we will be holding the course”.

Students will learn graphic and design, film making and web design. It will give them a really good solid path foundation so they can move through into creative industries.

'Our understanding is that there is nothing quite like this at this level in the Bay at the moment. It should be really awesome.”

Describing today's event, Chris says everyone loves to be able to draw on things they can't normally draw on with coloured chalk.

'People have been drawing little symbols, someone has drawn the New Zealand flag, and there are some monsters and lots of flowers.”
