TCDC seeks input on long term plan

Input is being sought from locals on the Thames-Coromandel District Council's 2015-2025 Long Term Plan consultation document released this week.

From now until early April locals can have their say on the future of the district and where they would like to see the Coromandel in ten years' time by making a submission on the plan.

The district council will also hold a series of public meetings across the Peninsula next week to give locals an opportunity to discuss and ask questions on the LTP with staff and elected members.

This LTP consultation document, which is less than 40 pages, lays out our priorities and where the district council plans to spend money over the next decade.

The proposals contained in the document are based on assumptions about the future of three key areas: the local economy, the district, and services delivered by council.

Proposals for the local economy covers likely growth rates, inflation and interest rates; and proposals for the district covers population changes, plus land use changes.

While proposals for delivered services covers when asset renewals are required, plus what impact of recent legislation will have on delivered services.

It also includes three additional policies which the council are also consulting on: Rates Remission, Revenue and Financing, plus the Development Contributions policies.

Council says locals can submit on these three policies as part of their submission to the LTP consultation document.

'But the individual policies have extra questions so we recommend treating any of these three separately.”

Council adds that when locals make submissions they do not have to answer every question, just those 'points they are passionate about”.

'Our aim is to make it as easy as possible for you to have your say without making you jump through any more hoops than required by the legislation.”

To help locals fully understand the contents of the LTP and to aide with their submissions, a series of public meetings will be held across the district next week:

  • Thames Council Chambers – 9am.
  • Tairua Library – 1pm
