Winston to talk on economy

The leader of New Zealand First, Winston Peters, is due to speak in Tauranga on Saturday about the state of the country's economy and offer some solutions.

'I'm releasing some financial and survey information which is at-odds with what the government is telling the people of the country, for example on issues like mortgage insecurity and unemployment,” says Winston.

Winston Peters is speaking in Tauranga on Saturday about the state of the New Zealand economy.

These figures provided from market research company Roy Morgan are significantly different to the government's figures.

He's also going to be speaking about how the high dollar, currently around 80 cents, is grossly overvalued.

'It is very difficult for the exporters and exporting provinces of this country.”

The overvalued dollar is destroying New Zealand's export industries and the government is paralysed, says Winston.

'The Governor of the Reserve Bank doesn't know what to do.

'I have discerned a widespread malaise out there from people who are wondering how they can see themselves through these difficult times.”

Winston is proposing a complete rewrite of the Reserve Bank Act.

'From the day the Reserve Bank Act turned up, I have said it would never work for this country.

'It's part of the blind ideology of the far right. It is now 26 years on, and it's demonstrable that this country is not succeeding. The Reserve Bank Act needs to be completely rewritten to fit our economy.

'A country like ours can't go on with an inflated dollar and enormous costs in every sector.”

Winston is scheduled to speak at the Wesley Church Hall on 13th Avenue at 1.30pm on Saturday.
