The 2010 Suzuki New Zealand ATV Nationals hosted by the Pirini ATV Club is being heralded by participants as the best one yet and as a professionally run event.
Held at the weekend at the purpose built track, organiser Warren Goldstone says 'it went like clockwork”, with spectator numbers measuring in the hundreds.
'I was very happy with it,” says Warren, 'The only holdups were watering the track, but that was not really a holdup as it was just maintenance to keep the dust down.”
The track stood out as a competitive one and drew praise from an unlikely source owing to traditional rivalry in the sport of quad racing.
'The riders really like the track, they reckon it's the best track they have ever ridden on. 'There were lots of comments from people like that, including from the South Islanders.”
Among the highlights of the track are the ‘big table top' jump and the double berms.
'Races were won and lost in the double berms because you can take an inside line or an outside line.”
Warren says one of the reasons for the competition's success was that announcer Danny Brian kept the timetable moving along, meaning the whole weekend flowed.
Running the event was a team effort and Warren is thankful for the hard work and support of all involved.
'I want to thank my committee, they are awesome people with a lot of effort taking days off work to set up the track and pull it down.
'I want to thank my wife for the hours of work she put in.”
Warren also wishes to thank the sponsors – listed below.
The success of this year's hosting of the 2010 Suzuki New Zealand ATV Nationals by Pirini ATV Club bodes well for its future. Warren suspects the nationals will probably be held in the South Island next year, but says Pirini will be ready to host again as soon as is possible, following the tremendous positive feedback he has received.
'Hearing ‘this is the best event that has ever been;' it makes it all worthwhile.”
The thrill of successfully hosting the event is only matched by one thing for Warren from the weekend and that was having his daughter, Emma, win the women's event, making her the number one ranked rider in New Zealand.
This came for Emma after scoring second place at the last three nationals.
This success was even greater for the Goldstone family as Emma's boyfriend Jason Jepsen won the premier men's division, making him the number one ranked men's rider in New Zealand.
