Good racing at Pirini Park

Perfect conditions were laid on for ATV riders competing in the 2010 Suzuki New Zealand ATV Championships, hosted by the Pirini ATV Club, over Labour Weekend.

A hundred riders raced over several classes, with the final racing on Sunday.

Pirini Park has a 2.2km track with natural terrain and manmade jumps. Organisers were hoping for seven rounds of racing over the weekend, with each race lasting 10 minutes, plus one lap.

'Depending on how fast the class is, determines how many laps the riders do in that time,” says race secretary Gowan Goldstone.

'Most classes will complete five to six laps during a race. The track features a big table top jump which is quite spectacular to watch.”

The Pirini ATV Club was established in 2008 by a group of enthusiastic quad riders in the Bay of Plenty region. Pirini Park is a popular track specifically designed for quads and suited to the way they ride. It has been built to a high standard to cater for both club and national events.

'We are lucky to have this land to use and are very appreciative to Warren, Jayson, Francis and Blair Pirini,” says Gowan.

'Club numbers are steadily increasing and we have riders who travel from all areas of the North Island to attend our events and monthly meets. As a committee we are proud of the reputation the club has for its friendliness, professionalism and ‘always putting on a good event.”

Gowan says the 2009 North Island Championship at Pirini Park was such a success that the ATV Commissioner from Motorcycling New Zealand asked the club to host this year's nationals.

Pirini Park is at 935 Pongakawa Bush Rd, just south of Te Puke.
