Candidates speak on Merivale

Merivale Community Centre has released the results of its Tauranga City Council candidate survey.

The survey asked candidates four questions:

  1. Would you support the development of a stand-alone youth centre in Merivale for Tauranga South youth?
  2. What responsibilities do you feel that TCC should take on to improve the quality of life for Merivale residents?
  3. If elected what ideas would you promote to address the following concerns held by residents in the Merivale community – Youth anti-social behaviour, poor parenting, domestic violence, feeling safe.
  4. What will you do for Merivale if elected?

The survey was sent to councillors standing at-large or for the Te Papa Welcome Bay ward. It was also sent to people standing for the Bay of Plenty District Health Board.

The questions and candidate responses are published in this pdf.

I am a candidate for the DHB and did not receive these questions. As a business owner in the area I would have been keen to put forward some views. I helped paint the Merivale Community Centre, am a former manager of the Tga YMCA Community College and have a long standing interest in youth issues.
