Mayor's online voting wish

Paper versus electronic is a debate Tauranga Mayor Stuart Crosby hopes to argue if re-elected.
Thousands of voting papers were mailed out to ratepayers this month at an unnecessary cost, says Stuart, who notes it is extraordinary that in today's information and electronic environment we are still constrained to using pieces of paper to cast a vote.

"Every minute millions of dollars are safely transferred around New Zealand as well as masses of private and confidential information."
Electronic voting papers could attract more voters as well as save money.
"Younger people in particular use electronic forms of communication as their first preference and I believe that if these options are available for voting then there will be a larger percentage of people exercising their democratic right.
"Those that choose to exercise their vote at elections for councils and health boards will continue to decline unless the Local Electoral Act is changed to allow various forms of electronic and telephone voting."
Stuart says the corporate sector often uses online voting for decisions that require stakeholder approval in a safe and confidential environment.
"There has been tremendous advance in this area and pleas from returning officers in the past to allow new forms of voting in council and health board elections have fallen on deaf ears."
Stuart says if re-elected he intends to follow up this issue to change the Local Electoral Act or any other piece of legislation to allow new media options for voting.

Unnecessary cost

Mate, you got that right! Tauranga is experiencing huge unnecessary cost: the cost to feed obscene council salaries and projects of grandeur. Take a hike together with your Council chums and the financial quagmire you created for Tauranga might improve.

Why only on Voting

Many tens of thousand plus millions are wasted by the Tauranga City Council every year where is Mr. Crosby then and what action is taken. Our rates is raising every time and some work done unnecessary just to meet the finical budget. If there is any new developments coming then the developer should pay for all that is needed in the new subdivisions. If we have some good town clerks and a mayor who can be strong and show the leadership then I think that Tauranga City will improve otherwise it will be what it is now. We rates payers keep paying and the council will waste as if there is no tomorow. Wake up mayor and show others that council will listen to the people who pay their wages and time to say the new changes are needed. Work for the public and not only for yourself.

Do you really think voters are that stupid? Deal with the real issues..ideally lack of disclosure within council and how about your leaky buildings. We are not really interested in your comments anymore.

BELOW THE GO LINE

The track record of the last three years says it all about the ability of the candidates listed. Nothing more than 'yes men”. The case is obvious you just need to refer back a month or two where Cr Stewart was quoted as saying at a Council meeting that 'he pledged his vote to the Mayor” apparently at a Council meeting when appointed as deputy, but no one seems to remember that the meetings are recorded and so for some reason no one can find it? Perhaps the truth is that the Mayor wants a smooth path for the next three years ? a group that will be able to be 'organised” with ease … hmmm now lets think a little about that, what does that mean for the rest of us ? MORE OF THE SAME right!

Punch on the nose or a poke in the eye

When the choices are either: A punch on the nose OR A Poke in the eye I chose NEITHER It is stupidity to give your permission to people to do things to you that you disagree with. The best of 2 evils is STILL EVIL. Stuart wants to SAVE some money on sending out voting papers How about stop spending money on things that private enterprise can do cheaper and BETTER, at NO COST to the ratepayers. Now THAT is something I would vote for
