Bay farm prices unchanged

The median price for a farm in the Bay of Plenty remains unchanged in the three month period to October compared to the three months to September.
Real Estate Institute of New Zealand figures show that between August 1 and October 31, the median price for a farm in the Bay of Plenty was $1m.

This is the same as the median price between July 1 and September 30.
A total of 28 farms sold in the three months to October, up from 26 sold in the September period.
Of the farms sold in the October period, 17 were horticulture farms and 11 were grazing.
The median price for a lifestyle block in the region in the October period was $386,500 – down from $500,000 in the three months to September.
REINZ president Peter McDonald says the Fonterra payout announcement was great news for farmers, but may only have a limited effect on the rural property market.
'The new payout is extremely welcome news and it will change a lot of people's budgets, encouraging greater confidence, but to date banks have been reluctant to show their hand and as a result, a lot fewer farms have been sold this year than you would usually expect at this time of the year,” says Peter.
