Coping with an interest rate hike

The property market continues to show some uncertainty – although it has stabilised somewhat compared with the situation just under a year ago.

One steadying factor during recession was Reserve Bank Governor Dr Alan Bollard's decision to hold the official cash rate at 2.5 per cent since June 2009. The OCR has not changed since this time and this has helped maintain some confidence in the property market.
This record low OCR does mean one thing – that it must start going up again some time.

SunLive blogger Terry Rota talks this week about how a property owner can best handle the inevitable interest rate hikes.
