Dive-bomb master plans next record

He might just have bombed his way into the world record books, but Louis Gordon is already looking to make a bigger splash this summer.

The 17-year-old is the mastermind behind Tauranga's Guinness World Record attempt for the most people to simultaneously perform a dive bomb.

A total of 243 people took part in the organised mass dive bomb into the water at Tauranga Marina's southern breakwater pier last October.

Research of the Guinness world record book found no dive-bombing record, but to make it into the famous record of achievements, Louis needed at least 100 people to take part.

And after two false starts of the certificate being lost in the mail, the Tauranga Boys' College student was blown away when he was unexpectedly presented the long-awaited certificate at a school assembly on Friday.

'I didn't think it was going to be that big, but its cool the community got behind it,” says Louis.

'Everyone is pretty chuffed. They are stoked to see it was successful and enjoyed being a part of.”

In a Facebook post Louis thanks everyone involved in the event and unveiled plans to look at beating his own record this year.

Since the photo of Louis and his certificate was posted on Sunday night it has accumulated 637 ‘Likes'.

'Now that I have been through the whole process I will look at doing more and it was quite a lot of fun and everyone got amongst it.

'500 would be pretty cool, but just however many turn up I guess. This year hopefully we will gather a few more people because it has got a bit of momentum behind and it hopefully I can turn it into an annual event if I can.”
