Mount Maunganui Primary students will be strutting the sports field in new attire after the school's second annual fashion fundraiser raised an estimated $15,000 last night.

The sold-out event at Farmer Auto Village is being hailed a success today with local clothing stores' latest looks showcased on a custom-made runway in front of 600 guests.

The funds raised will go towards news sports uniforms, gazebos for the primary's House groups and equipment to be used by the department.

On show at the event was the latest in street style fashion from Blakchaos, Harper, Evolution, Augustine, Smiths Sports, Mane Menswear, Sisters & Co and Milkman.

Mount Maunganui Primary School PTA committee member Helen Fletcher and Cath McDonald were the organisers of the event for the second year running.

Helen told SunLive this morning this year's show was an incredible night, from the fashion to the racing simulators.

'The feedback has been incredible, everyone had a great time,” says Helen.

'If you weren't into fashion there were two racing simulators set up next door, things were getting a bit competitive there, and a photo combie was set up out the back.”

This year's event was an extension of the inaugural show at Sisters & Co last year, with parents and teachers making up the 12 runway models.

'This year we extended it to include other stores and products and it's been really well received.”

The show opened with a performance from singer Hannah Parrot before DJ Sarah Bronte entertained the audience.

New to the catwalk at this year's event was Mount Maunganui store Blakchaos.

Blackchaos store manager Holly O'Connor says the store was quick to show its support as designers of the collaboration flagship store between Blak and Chaos and Harmony have children who attend the primary school.

'An opportunity to support the local community, and in an event of fashion, is certainly something that we enjoy taking part in,” says Holly.

'And these events are always great fun.”

Holly says this season's trends at Blakchaos are all about the effortless chic and cool layering look, with juxtaposition of shapes, textures and colours put together.

'The mix of cosy knits or comfy cottons layered over dresses, or relaxed fitting pants with structured style tops, channels the street-style trend that is very ‘right now' globally.”

Prints are a key look of their collections, with beautiful hues of blue, and rich khakis paired back with signature black, white and grey go-to staples, says Holly.

'For a minimal, Parisian style look our Luxe pieces are worn white on white, or black on black.”

The addition of other local stores with connections to the school is important for both the school's ability to fundraise, and enhancing a sense of community, says Helen.

'All of these stores have a connection, most are parents of children who attend the school. These events build that sense of community and are also a chance for friends to just get together.”

Helen says a special thanks to all of the event sponsors, especially its main two - Farmer Auto Village and ANZ.

In addition to the estimated $15,000 raised, Helen says Farmer Auto Village will also be donating $1 to the school for every person who likes the business' Facebook Page before Monday.
