Disgruntled kiwifruit orchardists have formed a breakaway organisation called the Independent Kiwifruit Growers Association.
They say the current industry structure doesn't adequately address grower concerns, particularly about Green profitability, says association spokesman Marcus Wilkins.
File picture.
They have no confidence in New Zealand Kiwifruit Growers Incorporated, or the ability of Kiwifruit New Zealand to adequately monitor the performance of Zespri under the Kiwifruit Export Regulations.
Their demands include Zespri adopting a payment structure similar to other primary industries, with growers regaining control of crop returns and having payments sooner than 14 months.
And to address the issue of dry shareholders, who are no longer producing, but continue to receive grower payments.
