With six fatal crashes occurring on Western Bay of Plenty roads so far this year – the same as the total tally for the region in 2013 – Tauranga Police are pleading with drivers to concentrate on their driving.
WBOP road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says many crashes on Western Bay roads are avoidable if people drive safely and concentrate on what they are doing.
'People need to remove any distractions. If you need to deal with children in the backseat, pull over and stop.
'If you absolutely have to take a phone call and don't have a hands-free kit, then pull off to the side of the road and stop.”
SunLive spoke to people on the streets of Tauranga, asking what measures they thought would deter people from using cellphones while driving.
People were asked if fines are a better deterrent or advertising highlighting the dangers of texting while driving.

Arrogance

Sadly to many Kiwis become the worlds most arrogant people once they get in the car, Overtaking on the inside is normal, but illegal, failure to keep left on dual carriageways forcing people to undertake. Even those who you would expect to be at the top of their game where driving is concerned, Ambulances, Fire Engines, (without the emergency lights)Log Trucks, Buses and taxis. No one wants to let anyone in to the queue, cant wait a minute.. and all those idiots who run the traffic lights, Amber means STOP, it doesn't mean she'll be right!! A vehicle License is a privilege not a right, The Police are of little value, unless their active road policy involves exceeding the limit by 4kph. Speed is not always the factor on road accidents, its the drivers taking or forcing other to take unnecessary risks and manouvers.

To all those crap drivers who choose to tailgate, be prepared - i will stand on my brakes - could you stop in time ??? Or i will continue to slow down to a crawl if necessary, until you take the hint to Back Off !!!

A bigger fine AND confiscate their cellphone for a month or 2 or 3. Caught again? Off to the judge not unlike a drink-drive scenario.
Worlds worst drivers!

Dr Phil is correct. The problem is that most Kiwis are taught to drive by relatives/friends who themselves are bad drivers instead of having driving lessons from a driving school thus picking up all those bad habits. I have driven vehicles in most countries in the world and sadly I have to agree that Kiwis are some of the worst/dangerous drivers I have encountered!ever
