Young Bay science buffs on show

Students from twelve Bay schools are showcasing their talent at the Bay of Plenty Regional Science & Technology Fair.

The fair is being held August 20 to 21 at the Rotorua Convention Centre.
Around 190 exhibits are expected from Year 7 to Year 13 students, from more than 20 schools throughout the Bay of Plenty region.
Over $7,000 worth of prizes are being donated by a range of businesses and science organisations and the overall winner will receive $600 and will also be nominated for a place at Genesis Energy's Realise the Dream.
This is a week long festival of events for young scientists, technologists, and others, to be held in December in Wellington.
Some students will also be eligible for the ‘Hands on Science week', to be held at Otago University in January 2010.
NIWA's education coordinator Dr Julie Hill says science and technology fairs are a great way to get kids to think about and be active in science.
'NIWA is proud to again sponsor this event as part of our commitment to fostering scientific knowledge among young people and the wider community,” says Julie.
