The New Zealand First Party may have found a new candidate to stand in Tauranga at the next election but finer details need to be ironed out before the party can announce the person publicly.
NZ First Tauranga electorate chairman Roy Townhill would not identify the person.
'We have someone in mind but the person can't let it out of the bag yet. That person doesn't want to jeopardise their employment opportunities.”
'The sooner we make the announcement the better, but we have to fall in with their wishes.”
The unidentified person will replace Winston Peters as the party's candidate in Tauranga.
Winston has been New Zealand First's candidate in Tauranga since 1993.
There have been suggestions by some in the party that Winston may not contest an electorate at the next election and will only stand on the party's list.
Roy hopes the party will be in a better position to announce its Tauranga candidate after Winston's first official speech in the city on March 27.
