Winston to talk in Tauranga

New Zealand First leader and former Tauranga MP Winston Peters is preparing to make his first official speech in the city since the last election.
He will speak at Baycourt on Saturday, March 27, before a crowd expected by party members to number in the hundreds.

Winston Peters.

The party's Tauranga electorate chairman Roy Townhill is unsure what Winston will cover in the speech.
'I think he'll have a go at the government for knocking up the GST and knocking back the gold card, which was his baby.”
Roy hopes Winston's Tauranga speech will prompt the party to start making preparations for the next election.
'Everybody is wanting to know what is going to happen.”
'I'm hoping there will be some pressure from him on the board to get pushing for candidates nationwide, not just in Tauranga.”
He says New Zealand First must start organising its 2011 election bid.
'For years, New Zealand First has made the mistake of holding off until the last minute to name their candidates, but we need a flagpole to rally around.”
Winston's Tauranga speech will only be open to invited members of the New Zealand First Party.
