Coromandel MP Scott Simpson says he is both honoured and excited at being given the opportunity to seek another three years representing the people of New Zealand's most diverse, vibrant and beautiful electorate.
Mr Simpson has been confirmed as the Coromandel National Party candidate for the 2014 election. There were no other nominations.
'I am very grateful to the Coromandel National Party for putting their faith in me again. And if the people of this beautiful part of the world continue to give me the honour of being their voice in Parliament I will do that with vigour and determination,” says Mr Simpson.
The former CEO of the Make-A-Wish Foundation was elected as Coromandel MP in 2011 with a 17,500 vote majority.
He lives in Thames and has strong family connections with Kuaotunu, north of Whitianga.
In February he was promoted to Chair of the Justice and Electoral Select Committee and also sits on the Health Select Committee.
Achieving the right balance between environmental protections and the need to grow the economy and create jobs remains a key goal for Mr Simpson.
'We have to find better ways of marrying those two issues if we are to attract the sort of investment that will help keep our families here and stop the drain towards the big cities.
"That is something I will be committing further work to over the next few months and indeed beyond if I get that mandate from the people of Coromandel.”
