Bay farms sell for $11m

Three Bay of Plenty farms have sold at auction in Tauranga for a combined $11 million.
The recent sale is described as one of New Zealand's biggest rural property sales in two years.
Rural sales consultant for Tauranga Bayleys, Rhys Mischefski, says dairy farms were purchased by a Katikati farmer and another was bought by a Te Puke farmer.

A 112ha dairy farm near Whakatane was purchased for $5.1 million by a Katikati farmer and an 82ha Bay of Plenty dairy farm was purchased by a Te Puke farmer for $2.4 million.
Rhys describes the sales as 'unbelievable” and says many in the industry are shocked by the auction.
'The market's been so depressed for such a long time,” says Rhys.
Four or five people bid on each of the farms and the combined auction attracted a total of 55 bids.
It is the first time in two years he has seen activity on that level, says Rhys.
