Residents in rural Western Bay of Plenty communities are urged to plan for the possibility of a swine flu pandemic in their areas.
DairyNZ, which represents New Zealand dairy farmers, has prepared an online toolkit to help farmers prepare for a swine flu pandemic.
DairyNZ is urging people in rural communities to organise a plan if a swine flu pandemic hits their area.
Toolkit developer Sam Palmer says if a swine flu pandemic spreads into rural communities it could have wide implications.
'It's important to get the most up to date information available. It's such a busy time of the year and the business is focused on dealing with the peak workload and the main issues on farms, such as calving and feeding,” says Sam.
'But having a pandemic plan in place means people are prepared and know what to do in the event of spread to the rural community.”
