Building consents make a comeback

Tauranga City's building sector is making a comeback, with the total value of building consents in October tacking ahead of September's total and October 2012's.

Priority One's building consents report for October show the total value of building consents in Tauranga City is $39.7million – an increase from September's $33.5m total and $9m ahead of the same month last year.

September saw building consents in Tauranga City dip from the previous month, from $36.2m in August to $33.5m, but October's statistics have not followed the downward trend.

The total number of consents rose to 191, again up on last month's 147 and the 138 recorded in October 2012.

Similarly, single dwelling consents are valued at $22.2m, up on the $17.9m from September, and the 13.7m in October 2012.

Commercial consents are valued at $14.1m – nearly double last month's $7.2m.

Priority One says three large commercial consents contributed to this figure.

They include stage two of a $9m warehouse/office development on Truman Lane, Te Maunga, stage two of a $2.25m rest home development on Taupo Ave in Papamoa, and the development of 12 serviced apartments at Althorp Village on Granston Drive.

Bucking the trend is local and central government consents, valued at $396,000 – well down on September's $6.2m and the $1.9m in October 2012.
