Horan slams fellow MPs

Tauranga has two cabinet ministers yet pays more for its power and has underachieving national health performances, says Independent Tauranga MP Brendan Horan.

In speech to the house this week the MP asked how in a town where the national Minister for Energy and Resources Simon Bridges lives, that power prices are 15 per cent above the national average.

Referring to Tony Ryall's health ministry portfolio, Brendan asked the house how it is 11 and 12-year-olds are made to wait nine months for an appointment at Tauranga Hospital with an ear nose and throat specialist.

Schools like Mount Maunganui College, only a 15 minute drive from Tauranga hospital, has to wait many hours, sometimes overnight for medical specimens and smears to be transported to Tauranga Hospital when the national standard is under two hours, says Brendan.

'I wonder how with two sitting ministers, Tauranga's national standing could be so diminished under their tenure,” says Brendan.

He refers to Route K as a $60 million noose around ratepayers necks and asks if the road is eventually going to be declared a state highway.

Brendan also asks how the ‘rotting festering carcass' of the Rena is still on Astrolabe Reef.

'The Government's demonstrating that it cannot even remove a boat off a rock, but is allowing the risk of total devastation of our coastline by allowing deep water oil exploration,” says Brendan.

The Tauranga based MP also spoke about corporate bullying by banks and power companies in the region. He also alleges a Tauranga law firm sent people to the hospital bedside of a terminally ill woman and changed her will.

'Just two hours before she was due to have a lifesaving operation,” says Brendan.

'She thought she was signing operation consent forms, not signing a change to her will. Here we have lawyers complicit in the bullying of the elderly and the vulnerable.”

He didn't name the firms because they deserve a chance to put things right, says Brendan.

Great to hear the truth and not the "follow the party line" sugar coated dribble we usually get from MP's.
